Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ Performance Packages

The biggest gripe we hear from 86/BRZ owners is from their relative lack of power from factory, and from our experience the manufacturers did leave plenty on the table to play with. Fortunately at Pulse Racing we have just the solution for you!

We offer kits to upgrade your 86/BRZ, whether you would like just an ECU tune to wake it up a bit, or if you want to go all out and build a fire-breathing monster – And everywhere in between.

We tune from full power to cruise and everywhere in between, modifying fuel, ignition, boost, VVT, throttle mapping and many other engine control parameters.

Many people will just “Flash” your car without running it on the Dyno and hope for the best! This is a very risky option as critical engine parameters are not checked to ensure they are within safe limits. The Pulse Ecutek Custom Tune is carried out on our in-house dyno, and often the tune will take around 3-4 plus hours to get everything 110% spot on.

With the tune we can also offer you the extra Racerom features – Launch Control, Flat Foot Shifting, Throttle Blip etc. to really enhance the driving experience!

PULSE BRZ/86 TURBO KIT

We have developed a turbocharger kit for the BRZ/GT86 twins that really helps bring the car to life and maximises the platform’s incredible potential.

We start with a custom modified AVO kit, which includes a carefully selected turbo, manifold and intercooler combination that provides awesome low-end torque and response with enough top end grunt to see you giving XR6 Turbos a hard time! Our kit comes with all hoses, fittings and mounting components included, and mates to a custom unequal length headers + high flow overpipe & front pipe setup. A nice bonus with the turbo kit and exhaust system is that we give the car back a nice deep WRX rumble that’s missing from factory.

A little bit of boost makes the 86/BRZ come alive, and gives the little car a much needed power and torque increase. With our turbo kit and ECU tune its not uncommon to expect a safe 190kW at the wheels on 98 octane fuel, which is quite a dramatic step up over the standard performance of the car (100- 110kW on average). Much of the extra power and torque increases over stock can be found down low and midway through the rev range, which gives the BRZ/GT86 an incredibly usable power band and turns it into a proper rocket of a car that will turn the factory tyres without even trying.

HARROP SUPERCHARGER UPGRADE

We can offer you a fantastic supercharger kit would use Harrop’s supercharger kit. The exact specifications of the kit depend on your power goals with the car as well as your existing supporting modifications, as the size of the pulley is the deciding factor in how much boost the supercharger generates.

The Harrop kit provides a big boost to low-end torque and response with enough top end power to see you giving even tuned STIs a hard time! The kit comes with all hoses, fittings and mounting components included, and is designed to be as subtle and stealthy as possible, as though it came from the factory like that.

A little bit of boost makes the 86/BRZ come alive, and gives the little car a much needed power and torque increase. With the base supercharger kit and custom ECU tune you can expect to aim for around 190+kW at the wheels safely on 98 octane fuel, which is quite a dramatic step up over the standard performance of the car.

On E85 this same kit can make anywhere upwards of 210+kW at the wheels, or over 100% increase from factory outputs! Much of the extra power and torque increases over stock can be found down low and midway through the rev range, which gives the 86 an incredibly usable power band and turns it into a proper rocket of a car that will turn the factory tyres without even trying.

In the manuals the factory clutch is still sufficient at this point in most cases, however upgrading the clutch can open up even more potential to make significantly more power and torque.

The best bit about the Harrop kit is that it allows you to maximise the car’s power potential whilst preserving a factory appearance and most importantly, a very high level of safety and reliability.

OPTIONAL – E85/FLEXFUEL SETUP

To achieve an even higher level of safety and power potential we recommend running E85 fuel. The biggest benefit of E85 is that it has a much lower combustion temperature than 98, which allows you to run more boost and make more safe power from your engine. It’s not uncommon to see around a 10-15% gain in power when you run with E85 compared to straight 98 octane.

Further on from that, the benefits of running E85 in a FlexFuel setup are huge in that you can run an infinite ratio of either 98 or E85 in the tank. Considering the relatively limited availability of E85 in the country (Only United and Caltex stations, or by the drum from specialist suppliers), this means that running on E85 is no longer a huge compromise as you can top up the tank with 98 and the tune will compensate accordingly on the fly. Gone are the bad old days of compromised E85 setups!

This makes our Flex Fuel setup perfect for the weekend track warriors. It allows you to fill up with 98 for the commute to work, and then getting the car ready for a burst on the track with some E85 at a moments notice. However as many of our customers will attest to, once you’ve driven on E85 you’ll go out of your way to keep filling up with it!

To run E85 in a FlexFuel setup we will need to install and calibrate a FlexFuel kit to the car, which includes an in cabin ethanol content gauge so you can see how much ethanol you have in the fuel system at any one time. From there we tune for straight 98 octane fuel, then we drain the fuel tank and fill up with different amounts of E85, whilst tuning for various different ratios of the two fuels.
